SHARJAH: Teenage leg-spinner Rashid Khan took three wickets while Mohammad Nabi smacked a quick-fire 40 as Afghanistan strolled to a five-wicket win over Zimbabwe in Monday’s first T20I in Sharjah.
Solomon Mire had handed Zimbabwe a quick start in the first game with a 21-ball 34 as the visiting side reached 52/1 at the end of the Powerplay. However, things unravelled rather quickly after that with the Afghanistan spinners, led by Rashid Khan, coming into their own on the Sharjah surface to restrict the score to 120/9.
As far as the bowling in concerned, with the track tilted in favour of the spinners, Zimbabwe might be tempted to bring in Tendai Chisoro in place of one of the medium pacers.
For Afghanistan, it will be a case of just building on the momentum. An added incentive for them will be will be that a win will help them climb to eighth position in the MRF Tyres ICC T20I Player Rankings ahead of Sri Lanka.
