Vijender Singh Once Again Challenges Amir Khan for a Fight

NEW DELHI: Vijender Kumar has a 8-0 winning record since turning pro in 2015 and the star India boxer has once again expressed his desire to fight against British-Pakistani boxer Amir Khan.

In an interview, Vijender said that he hopes to fight against Amir Khan soon, who had earlier said that it will be a backward step for him if he fights the Indian star.

“Please pray that my fight against Amir Khan happens sooner than later. I am waiting eagerly to go inside the ring against him. Although people are talking a lot about this bout, but nothing is concrete yet,” Vijender said.

However, the 2008 Olympic medallist must focus on the job in hand where he faces WBO Oriental super middleweight champion Zulpikar Maimaitiali of China in Mumbai on Saturday. The fight night has been given the name of “Battleground Asia” and it will give both the boxers a chance to claim double titles in a winner-takes-all show.

While Vijender is the current WBO Asia Pacific Super Middleweight champion, Zulpikar is the WBO Oriental Super Middleweight champion and whoever wins Saturday’s fight will claim the twin titles. Vijender issued a warning to his Chinese counterpart and said that he is confident of beating him and extend his winning record.

“I will beat him 100 percent and will bring home both the titles. The fight is for the Asian title as he has got the Asian Oriental Championship. Whoever wins this clash will become the King of Asia. So, I am expecting a very good fight,” Vijender said.

Vijender will be fighting his ninth bout in August and in the same month there is another blockbuster clash in store for boxing fans in which Floyd Mayweather will clash against Conor McGregor in Las Vegas. Calling it as the ‘fight of the century’, Vijender said that Mayweather will trump the UFC Champion comfortably and will take his fighting record to 50-0.

“It is going to be the biggest fight of the century. I am supporting Floyd Mayweather because the fight is only about boxing and Mayweather knows everything about it, unlike McGregor. So, I am sure that he will go on to win the fight,” he said.
