MADRID – In a bid to boost tourism amid the coronavirus pandemic, the Spanish government has announced that passengers from anywhere in the world who have been vaccinated against COVID-19 will be able to enter the country starting Monday.

Foreign tourism to Spain, the world’s second most visited country before the pandemic hit, plunged 80 per cent last year as COVID-induced curbs brought leisure travel to a virtual standstill, leaving its beaches, palaces and hotels almost deserted.

While announcing the major decision at Madrid’s FITUR international tourism trade fair, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez had on May 21 said that the entry will be allowed to vaccinated travellers regardless of their country of origin, and notably from the United States.
