LAHORE: Javed Afridi’s Peshawar Zalmi beat Quetta Gladiators in the final match of Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2017 by 58 runs in Lahore’s Qaddafi Stadium in front of a CRICKET-PAK-PSLjam-packed crowd. Quetta Gladiators won the toss and elected to field first in the final fixture of PSL 2017. Batting first, Peshawar Zalmi scored 148 runs for the loss of six wickets in the given 20 overs. Kamran Akmal was the top-scorer, who scored 40 runs off 32 deliveries. He hit 1 six and 6 fours. He was dismissed by Hassan Khan. The upcoming batsmen kept on losing regular wickets. It was skipper Darren Sammy whose late blitz at number seven lifted the score up at the end. He contributed quick 28 runs off 11 balls, hitting 3 sixes and 1 four. RR Emrit was the leading wicket-taker. He dismissed three players. In response to Peshawar Zalmi’s 149-run target, Quetta Gladiators batting line-up collapsed due to pressure. They started their innings quite slowly, scoring just one run in the first over and losing an opener in the second. Only three of their players reached the mark of 20 runs. SM Ervine was the top-scorrer with 24 runs. He was followed by Skipper Sarfraz Ahmad and Anwar Ali who contributed 22 and 20 runs respectively. Mohammad Asghar took three wickets while Hasan Ali and Wahab Riaz dismissed two players each. Earlier, while speaking to Ramiz Raja before the match, Sammy said, “It looks like a good wicket… The atmosphere is great… My good friend Lala Afridi told me ‘Bro, if we get to the final, you have to come to Lahore’ … What is important is, I want cricket to be the winner [tonight].” While, Quetta’s skipper Sarfraz Ahmad said after winning the toss, “There is some pressure obviously but hopefully we will play some good cricket. We have lost four good foreign players but we have others coming in.” Darren Sammy was awarded Man of the Match while Kamran Akmal was declared Man of the series.
