Rename Padmavati to 'Padmavat', Indian censor board tells Bhansali

BOLLYWOOD: The Indian censor board who reviewed the film Padmavati in its committee meeting on December 28 has suggested renaming the brand as  Padmavat  apart from several cuts and other changes in the content.

Director Sanjay Leela Bhansali has received UA certificate from the board on the conditions of modification. The film that became a controversy through protests of the Hindu-extremist leaders will now be released with certain changes.

It was demanded that the producers should make modifications in disclaimers. Not glorifying the practice of Hindu tradition “Sati” and changes in the song Ghoomar were some other demands. Bhansali himself appeared before the panel.

Historians including Arvind Singh, Dr Chandramani Singh and K K Singh also attended the meeting.

The clearance certificate will be given after required modifications are done before submitting the final content, Indian censor board told the producers.

The film with estimated budget of INR 150 crore stars Deepika Padukone, Shahid Kapoor and Ranveer Singh. It is based on poetry of Sufi scholar Malik Muhammad Jayasi from the 16th century.
