Remove Ayyan Ali from ECL: Supreme Court

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court on Wednesday upheld the decision by the Sindh High Court to remove model Ayyan Ali’s name from the Exit Control List (ECL).

A three-Judge bench of Supreme Court chaired by Justice Ejaz Afzal Khan rejected the federal government’s appeal against Sindh High Court (SHC) which had ordered authorities to remove the name of model Ayyan Ali’s name from ECL.

Along with judgment, apex court observed that delay in a criminal case cannot make any solid reason to bar super model Ayyan’s movement abroad.

Ayyan had entered the request to the supreme court to dispose a petition submitted by federal government against SHC’s March 7 order, which enabled her to move abroad after removal of name from ECL.

Ayyan Ali money laundering case:

Ayyan was arrested on 14th March 2015, on charges of money laundering, after customs officials recovered $506,000 from her luggage at Islamabad’s Benazir Bhutto International Airport before she could reportedly board a flight to Dubai. She was granted bail in July last year after spending around four months in Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail ─ and after her judicial remand was extended at least 16 times.
