PARIS-Sputnik: The head of the municipal police of the southern French city of Rodez, located in the rural Aveyron department, was killed in an armed assault, local media reported.

According to the France 3 Occitanie TV channel, Pascal Filoe was stabbed with a knife by a 40-year-old individual in front of the city’s administrative building in the morning. Filoe succumbed to his injuries, while the attacker was promptly arrested.

The broadcaster added that the attacker’s motives had not been identified yet. According to the channel’s sources, the local police had seized the 40-year-old’s combat dog, which he did not have a license for, a week ago, which prompted him then to threaten the city’s mayor and Filoe.

French Interior Minister Gerard Collomb has expressed his condolences to Filoe’s family, as well as to all those residing in Rodez, on his Twitter account.
