Players should relax, no more suspension on cards, says Najam Sethi

DUBAI: Chairman Pakistan Super League (PSL) Najam Sethi on Saturday said media should stop speculation and players should relax as no more player suspension on the card during the ongoing PSL second edition. Amid speculations about PSL players’ involvement in spot-fixing, he took to Twitter to clear the air and said no more player suspensions are envisaged during PSL, provided there is no new cause for action. He said failure to promptly report any attempt to corrupt and subvert PSL will be cause for action. The chairman also suggested media to refrain from spreading speculations and instructed players to focus on game. “Media should stop speculation. Players should relax, play the game and bring joy to millions of fans at home and abroad,” he wrote on his Twitter account.

Earlier today, Najam Sethi clarified that cricketer Mohammad Irfan was only questioned as part of an ongoing investigation into corruption and he was not suspended from the PSL. Karachi Kings’ Imad Wasim was also made victim of wrong media speculation. Some news channels were speculating that Wasim has been in radar of investigation for the ongoing spot fixing saga. “The news against me is totally false. I always played and will play with dignity and pride. I love my country and respective teams which I play for,” said Wasim. Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Friday suspended Islamabad United players Khalid Latif and Sharjeel Khan “as a part of an investigation into a syndicate which is believed to be attempting to corrupt the PSL”. “Sharjeel Khan and Khalid Latif have been suspended and the rigorous and wide-ranging investigation by the PCB supported by ICC will continue as part of collective efforts to protect the integrity of the sport,” says a statement issued by the board.
