Petition filed to remove Priyanka Chopra as UNICEF Ambassador

BOLLYWOOD: Priyanka Chopra has been under fire for cheering on India’s strike in Balakot last week. And now, an online petition has been filed to remove her from the position of UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador.

On February 26, the actor had lauded the Indian armed forces on Twitter saying, “Jai Hind. Indian Armed Forces.”

According to TMZ, the petition – filed on Avaaz.org – reads, “War between two nuclear powers can only lead to destruction and death. As the goodwill ambassador of UNICEF, Priyanka Chopra was supposed to stay neutral and peaceful but her tweet in favour of the Indian armed forces after they invaded Pakistani airspace shows otherwise. She doesn’t deserve this title anymore.”

The petition has already reached a couple thousand signatures but. UNICEF is yet to comment on it. Either way, Chopra has been receiving quite a bit of flak for her post.

“Aren’t you supposed to be a Good Will ambassador for UNICEF?” Pakistani actor Armeena Khan wrote on Twitter. “Screen shot this everyone, and next time she [Priyanka] speaks up for peace and goodwill, let’s remind her of this hypocrisy.”
