Pakistani Man survives 25 years eating trees and leaves


GUJRANWALA: We are often told to have a balanced diet, comprising of grains, legumes, vegetables, fruits and nuts, etc. However, a man in Pakistan seems to have rubbished all such EATING TREE LEAVESdietary guidelines. 50 year old Mehmood Butt, who lives in Punjab province of Pakistan, has been surviving on eating fresh leaves and wood for the last 25 years. And the amazing thing is that he has never fallen ill. It was not that he liked eating leaves and wood, but due to poverty, he could not even afford a proper meal. When he was 25 years of age, he had the option to beg on the streets, but he chose to live on fresh leaves and wood. And the idea worked and he has never looked back. He has been following this routine for the last 25 years and has never fallen ill. In his later years, he managed to get some work and earn some money, which could have given him some real meals. However, he seemed to have become addicted to leaves and wood and could not get over the habit. Butt said that eating leaves and wood has now become a way of life for him. He currently works using his donkey cart to transport goods from one place to another, which allows him to earn Rs 600 per day. He could easily have regular meals with this money, but he is still unable to stop himself from eating leaves and wood. According to Butt, the tastiest wood comes from Banyan, Tali and Sukhchain trees.
