Pakistan’s Ambassador to the United States Aizaz Ahmad Chaudhry has said Islamabad is seeking clarification from Washington after the US, citing “severe violations of religious freedom,” placed Pakistan on a special watch list.
The ambassador in a statement on Sunday said Pakistan was seeking clarifications from the US regarding its rationale and implications.
In the statement, he also mentioned that steps taken by the government to ensure protection of human rights and religious freedom in Pakistan must be acknowledged.
Chaudhry underscored wide-ranging legislative, institutional and administrative measures taken by the government of Pakistan which were geared to ensuring full coverage of guarantees afforded by the Constitution, adding that his country is firmly committed to promoting and protecting human rights and right to religious freedom.
He also said the international community was well aware of the steps Pakistan was taking that had brought about positive changes, adding that his country will continue to work towards a view to ensure that internationally agreed standards on religious freedom are observed.
