NEW JERSEY: The attack, which happened overnight, could be the first mass shooting of the year. It comes just a day after law enforcement officers were shot at in a major incident in Colorado.
Authorities confirmed the shooting had happened in Long Branch, on the Jersey Shore. The beach-side city has a population of around 30,000.
Four people are dead after a gunman in a central New Jersey town opened fire on family members, according to prosecutors.
The shooting in Long Branch was confirmed by prosecutors in Monmouth County Monday morning, though it was not immediately clear when the shots were fired.
“MCPO running an ongoing homicide investigation with 4 dead in Long Branch. No threat to the public as it is believed to be an isolated domestic incident,” the prosecutor’s office posted on Twitter.
A 16-year-old suspect was taken into custody, sources told WNBC, adding that two of the people killed were the boy’s mother and grandmother.
