LONDON: Indian singer and composer Mika Singh, who is set to perform in the US next week, has come under fire for asking his fans to join him in celebrating the independence days of India and “Humara Pakistan”.
“Be ready to rock with me.. Houston and Chicago…. I’m coming to rock you guys Jai hind,” (sic) Mika posted on Twitter.
The organisers of the show also posted a video of the singer briefing about his performance scheduled in Chicago and Houston ahead of India’s Independence Day. In the video, Mika said he is “looking forward” to celebrate the Independence Day of India and Pakistan. “15 August ko humara Hindustan azaad hua tha aur 14 ko humara Pakistan,” he said in the video.
His use of words “Humara Pakistan” triggered an onslaught of criticism from some enraged Indians, who slammed the 40-year-old singer for the joint celebration.
Mika tweeted a ‘clarification’ in response to the criticism, assuring his fans “I’m an Indian and I’m always proud to be an Indian….” (sic)
India celebrates its Independence Day on August 15, a day after Pakistan’s Independence Day on August 14.
In a veiled attack on singer Mika Singh, the Shiv Sena on Friday said artists should not compromise on patriotism over commercial benefits. Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut said that keeping any relation with Pakistan, a country which is brewing unrest in India, is wrong and should not be done. “These artists preach us in regard with patriotism but when it comes to business they share dais with Pakistani artists,” Raut lamented.

These celebrities only run after money and fame. They have no self respect, no pride no loyalty. Shameful!
