London’s Unlimited One Hour Bus Hopper Fare Comes Into Effect Today

LONDON: Back in November London Mayor Sadiq Khan announced that the London’s Bus Hopper scheme would be getting a mini expansion in the new year. Today is the day that goes into effect, which should save some commuters a bit of extra cash.

In the past bus hopping let you switch buses (or trams, where available) without paying an extra £1.50 charge, provided that you scanned your Oyster or contactless card on the new bus within an hour of doing it on the original bus journey. But you could only do it once, which is why the change has happened. Now you can swap buses as many times as you like, and as long as you stay within that same one hour window you’l only be charged £1.50.

Back in September it was revealed 325,000 daily journeys took advantage of the original Bus Hopper scheme, and now it’s being expanded that number will probably end up increasing. TfL has also frozen prices in 2018, which is expected to save Londoners around £200 each by 2020.
