XINSHIJI: At least 14 kindergarten children sustained injuries after a woman stormed into a school in China’s Chongqing and stabbed them with a kitchen knife.
The knife attack occurred early morning on Friday in Xinshiji Kindergarten in Banan District of China’s southwestern city of Chongqing. The children were returning from their morning exercises when a 39-year-old woman, identified as Liu, attacked them with a kitchen knife, international media reported.
The children were immediately taken to a nearby hospital where they were given medical treatment. Video on social media shows the injured children walking to ambulances while some were placed on gurneys.
The attacker, Liu, was arrested at the school premises. The reason behind the attack is yet to be identified while authorities have started an investigation.
This attack is the not first of its kind in the country, as knife attacks have often occurred in schools in China. These attacks are blamed on people for having personal grievance or mental sickness. As the country has a strict law against the possession and sale of firearms, attacks are usually carried out with knives.
