MUMBAI: It’s certainly a bad year to be Kendall Jenner. After being trolled over her advertising stint with Pepsi, and promoting the failed Fyre Festival, the 21-year-old media personality is once again in the line of fire for gracing the cover of Vogue India. Jenner was chosen by the magazine to be the cover girl for their 10th Anniversary May Collector’s Edition issue. As soon as photos of the Vogue India cover surfaced, the internet was quick to shoot down the international publication claiming that the magazine failed to find an Indian model for the May issue.
On Instagram alone, @vogueindia’s post announcing the cover has attracted numerous negative comments. @manhamahnoor said: Are all the beautiful Indian women in this world dead?. Instagrammer @gurv_sid chimed in: Considering India’s population, you couldn’t find even one Indian model to grace the cover?! @vogueindia. One of the first commenters, @ardourstyles said: Shouldn’t you guys have chosen an INDIAN model? Twitterati agree that putting Kendall on the cover was a mistake
Why is Kendall Jenner on the cover for Vogue India when india literally has some of the prettiest models?

In a post on Friday, Vogue India issued a statement regarding the cover of their now-controversial magazine issue. You can read the complete statement below.
“We have lined-up a series of special issues for this entire year to celebrate our 10th anniversary, starting with the May 2017 Collector’s Edition, which is not the anniversary issue. The actual 10th anniversary is October 2017. In the last 10 years, Vogue India has had only 12 international covers, including Kendall Jenner, in 2017. Therefore, statistically, 90 per cent of our covers are Indian! And we are proud of that. India has given the world so many beautiful faces to admire. After all, we are Vogue, an international brand, and we want to give the love back by featuring some of the best international celebrities on our covers. Occasionally! ” The same issue of the magazine did feature familiar Bollywood faces such as Sushant Singh Rajput and Katrina Kaif. Despite this, many are still upset at the magazine for choosing Jenner to for cover.
