Iranian movies to be encouraged in Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: Lok Virsa Executive Director, Dr Fouzia Saeed, on Thursday said that Iranian films were liked throughout the world and their presentation in Pakistan would be highly appreciated. She said that Lok Virsa was arranging the screening of an Academy Award winner Iranian film: “A Separation”, on November 19. “A Separation” won the Academy Award for “Best Foreign Language Film in 2012”, becoming the first Iranian film to win the award. A drama film it is written and directed by Asghar Farhadi, starring Leila Hatami, Peyman Moaadi, Shahab Hosseini, Sareh Bayat and Sarina Farhadi. It focuses on an Iranian middle-class couple who separate, and the conflicts that arises when the husband hires a lower-class caregiver for his elderly father, who suffers from Alzheimer’s disease.

It received the “Golden Bear for Best Film” and the “Silver Bears for Best Actress” and “Best Actor” at the 61st Berlin International Film Festival, becoming the first Iranian film to win the “Golden Bear”. It also won the Golden Globe for “Best Foreign Language” Film. The film was nominated for the Academy Award for the “Best Original Screenplay”, making it the first non-English film in five years to achieve this. PAL weekly book bazaar from Friday: The Pakistan Academy of Letters (PAL) will organize a two-day Weekly book bazaar here at the premises of the Academy from Friday (today). The publishers and book sellers of Islamabad and Rawalpindi will set-up their stalls at the weekly book bazaar. The bazaar would start working from 9 am and last till 7 pm. Books on various subjects would be available at weekly bazaar on discounts rates, said an official of PAL.

He said that the Academy was making efforts to promote the book reading culture in the country. He said the Academy had already invited students and the general public to get books on discounted rates from the weekly book bazaar. PNCA to mark 100th birthday of poet Ahmed Nadeem Qasmi: The Pakistan National Council of the Arts (PNCA) has scheduled to celebrate the 100th Birth Day of Ahmed Nadeem Qasmi on Sunday, November 20 at the PNCA Auditorium, F-5/1 Islamabad. Renowned writers, Intellectuals & poets will speak on the occasion & the poetry of Ahmed Nadeem Qasmi will be presented.
