MANCHESTER: Heading out on New Year’s Eve? Prepare to pay more for an Uber.
The taxi app firm has warned it uses ‘dynamic pricing’ – a process to encourage licensed drivers to work during busy times and in busy areas.
On New Year’s Eve , fares are expected to peak between 12am and 3am. Bosses say this is how they control the number of people requesting a cab.
But there are some hacks to help you avoid paying over the odds – and keep you safe.
Among them is making sure you check the fare estimate when you book. If it’s too much, you can wait for the peak to trough – or book elsewhere.
There’s also the Split the Fare option, allowing you to share a cab – and the price – by requesting everyone’s Uber account be charged evenly.
UberPOOL – which brings people together who are travelling to the same destination – is not available in Manchester.
Also remember to stay safe. When you book you’ll receive the name and photo of your licensed driver, registration, make and model plus a picture of your cab.
And by selecting ‘Trip Status’, you can share a live map or your current locations and estimated time of arrival with friends and family.
If you wake up in 2018 and realise you lost something in a cab in 2017, you can select the HELP button on the app to report it.
