Fleet M3 service station fire engulfs restaurant building

HAMPSHIRE: A large fire has broken out at a motorway service station in Hampshire. The blaze erupted in a restaurant at Fleet services on the M3 at 22:30 GMT on Wednesday, leading police to temporarily close the southbound carriageway. Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service said 50 firefighters were sent to the scene. Firefighters from Surrey also attended and crews have stopped the blaze spreading further. There are no reports of injuries. A fire service spokesman said: “It started in one of the restaurants in the services and it spread from there, but we have stopped it from spreading throughout the whole building.” The slip road to the service station from the southbound carriageway remains closed. The services between junctions 4a and 5 were opened in 1973 and include a food court, petrol station and hotel.
