LONDON: British fashion designer Jenny Packham is renowned for her bridal collections and has dressed everyone from the Duchess of Cambridge to Angelina Jolie. Now the designer has turned her hand to jewellery, masterminding an exquisite collection for Goldsmiths, which launched this Autumn. It’s no surprise that given Packham’s experience with bridal, the new collection centres on engagement rings. Each of the three bridal suites, entitled Gloria, Aurora and Étoile, also comprises earrings and a necklace pendant. Whether the golden age of cinema or the natural wonder of the Aurora Borealis, Packham’s inspiration for the collection is stars in every sense of the word. Setting a celestial scene, the influence plays out across classic cut diamonds and intricate detailing which evoke the image of a sparkling night’s sky. Paying homage to silver-screen leading lady Gloria Swanson, the eponymous Gloria collection brings a contemporary touch to the decadence and hedonistic flair of the Twenties. The cushion cut edit features a brilliant round diamond nestled in a square double halo of pavé set diamonds seen in earrings, a pendant and not to mention one of the designer’s favourite pieces, a statement three-stone engagement ring.
Meanwhile, each piece in the Aurora edit features a brilliant central statement diamond surrounded by a halo of delicate pavé stones, calling to mind clusters of stars. The jewel in the crown of the Etoile (meaning ‘star’ in French) edit is a solitaire diamond. Channelling the romantic, feminine and intricate detail of Jenny Packham bridal, the suite consists of hoop earrings, a drop pendant and a solitaire engagement ring set on a fine diamond band. The designer’s love of diamonds is evident throughout. Of the collaboration, she says: “My love of sparkles is no secret and while crystals and sequins can suffice, diamonds are my new best friend. Partnering with Goldsmiths has been inspiring, resulting in a collection both beautiful and desirable.”
