Booker sales rise ahead of merger

LONDON: The group, which has two Booker sites in Wolverhampton and one in Kingswinford, saw both catering and retail sides perform well. Non tobacco sales were up 5.8 per cent.

Tobacco sales continued to be adversely impacted by changes in tobacco legislation and were down 9.4 per cent on a like-for-like basis.

Booker announced its planned merger with Tesco in January. It is currently going through the review process with the Competition and Markets Authority.

Chief executive Charles Wilson said: “Our plans to focus, drive and broaden Booker Group are on track. The competition review of the planned merger with Tesco plc is progressing. We continue to help our retail, catering and small business customers prosper through improving our choice, prices and service.”
