LONDON: Pakistan top order batsman Babar Azam has been one of the most consistent performer for his side for quite some time, minting runs on command, however, his inability to finish the game for his side is what concerns Pakistan former captain and fast bowling great Wasim Akram.
“He [Babar] is a quick learner but the only thing that he needs to learn now is how to finish the game, if he is chasing or if he is batting first,” said Wasim, quoted ICC.
“He was well settled [against South Africa] on 69 and suddenly he played that shot because Haris Sohail at the other end was playing the aggressor so he didn’t have to play that shot, but again he is learning,” added Wasim.
Azam posted 69 runs and alongside Haris provided a stable partnership in the middle overs, allowing Pakistan to put 308 runs on the scoreboard.
The legendary fast bowler also heaped praise on Haris for his match winning knock of 89 runs, the former skipper however, pointed out that Haris needs to improve his fitness in order improve his game.
“The minute he [Haris] came on he started playing his shots, and proper cricketing shots not just slogging and that’s why he is very dangerous. He just has to improve his fitness, I can understand he had a knee operation six months back, but now is the time if he improves his fitness his batting would improve as well,” he added.
