Amir reveals tactic behind Kohli’s wicket in Champions Trophy final

MUMBAI: Mohammad Amir played a crucial role in Pakistan’s 180-run victory in the 2017 Champions Trophy over arch-rivals India. The left-arm speedster ripped apart the Indian top order dismissing the troika of Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan and Virat Kohli to make things easy for Sarfraz Ahmed and co.

Speaking on the Voice of Cricket show, Mohammad Amir recalled the moment when he was facing Kohli. He had just seen teammate Azhar Ali drop him but was soon rewarded with the wicket of the India skipper the very next ball after the right-hander nicked one to Shadab Khan at backward point.

“When Virat Kohli came in, I had bowled an inswing delivery and he was beaten. Rohit Sharma was also dismissed off an inswinging delivery too. He was dropped earlier and I thought if he stuck around, he will take India towards victory. So I prayed to God for his wicket and the next ball I got his wicket after Shadab Khan took a brilliant catch,” Amir said.

Not only Kohli, but Amir has also dismissed Indian batting icon Sachin Tendulkar. When asked which was the most special wicket, the bowler revealed, “Both. They’re both big batsmen. Tendulkar I will say because when I was playing then, I was new to the team. So Sachin’s wicket was special for me.”

Amir had a poor run in the recently-concluded Asia Cup 2018 tournament that saw him being dropped from Pakistan’s Test series against Australia.
