An exciting opportunity to lead on the design and development of a new Pilot service for Young Carers and their families.

Our client has been building stronger families since 1869, and today works with over 45,000 families and children through 120 community based services. Thousands more are supported with financial assistance through education and welfare grants programmes.

Position: Young Carers Activities & Mentoring Coordinator
Location: Haringey, London
Job type: Temporary 6 months
Hours: 37 hours per week
Salary: £27,470 to £29,967 inclusive of OLW

About the Role:
They are delighted to be commissioned to provide a new Pilot service for Young Carers and their families, in conjunction with CAMHS, local Schools and Haringey SHED.

Their new Young Carers’ service is designed with various strands of provision, including supporting parents and professionals to feel equipped to identify, understand and support the emotional and mental health needs of young carers. Ensuring parents with mental health issues are supported and therefore more able to fulfil their parenting role and to promote young carers confidence and resilience to achieve their aspirations for the future.

You will lead on the design and development of a co-produced peer support model with young carers, exploring the role of mentors either through peer mentors or volunteers, which will enable them to experience social activities with other young carers, in the context of reducing isolation and building resilience and emotional wellbeing.

About You:
You will have proven experience of designing, leading and facilitating individual as well as group based activities that increase young carers’ social networks, self-esteem, and resilience as well as decrease the negative emotional impact their caring role. You will recruit, train, manage and supervise a team of mentors to support these activities and support young carers engaged with social opportunities so that they are not isolated from their wider peer group. You will work proactively in partnership with other agencies to reduce the burden of care experienced by young carers using agreed outcome measurement tools and supporting professionals in identifying, understanding and providing support to young carers in line with reforms to the Care and Children and Families’ Acts 2014.

You will be highly self-motivated, have excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate creatively and effectively with children and young people ranging from 5 to 18 years of age as well as adults with complex needs. You will have experience of recruiting and managing a team of volunteers to undertake direct work with children and young people, as well have an excellent understanding of the risk factors for families and the well-being of children, and thus have proven experience of Safeguarding children and vulnerable adults.
