World champion gymnast reveals secret job as porn star

AMSTERDAM: A former world champion gymnast from the Netherlands has revealed she turned to pornography to make ends meet.

Verona van de Leur, who won a gold medal at a 2002 World Cup event and silver at the European championships, earning her Dutch Sportswoman of the Year, said she plans on leaving the porn industry and wants a return to the gymnastics world – either in a coaching or mentoring role – ahead of the release of her English-language autobiography titled Simply Verona – Breaking All The Rules.

“At the end of this year, when a few contracts expire, I will stop the porn industry,” she told Dutch news outlet AD. “Then I can look back on eight great years. I enjoyed it, but saw it as work. I was not the typical porn actress. I set my own rules in my company, did everything alone or with my boyfriend.”

But how did van de Leur, 33, go from champion gymnast to sleeping on the streets, jail, and then work as a porn star?

“I already had family problems when I was still doing gymnastics,” she said. “The moment I said I was going to quit, it only got worse. At home the locks were replaced, I literally ended up on the street.”

By 2008, van de Leur wasn’t feeling motivated to continue the sport. Coupled with family problems, she found herself living in a car and on the street with her boyfriend.

Her life spiralled further out of control when she was convicted of blackmailing a couple in 2011 and served 72 days in jail.

To get her life in order, van de Leur turned to webcam work and adult movies after being released from jail.

“I was offered such a nice amount in 2011 that I could not say ‘no’,” she said.
