LONDON: England have confirmed allrounders Ben Stokes and Chris Woakes will miss the remainder of Australia’s Qantas Tour of the United Kingdom.

The pair had been expected to recover from their respective injuries towards the back end of the five-match series, with England currently leading the ODI series 2-0.

But the England and Wales Cricket Board provided an update on both players’ fitness on Monday, with neither on track to make a recovery in time for the Australia series.

Woakes is nursing a right quad tear and Stokes a torn left hamstring. Both injuries were sustained during the Test series against Pakistan after they played in the Indian Premier League.

Stokes is back running at “90 per cent capacity” and is able to bat, the ECB said in a statement, with his rehabilitation to continue during the fourth and fifth ODIs in Durham and Manchester.

The 27-year-old is expected to be available for the three-match T20I series against India next month.
