BOLLYWOOD: Salman Khan has decided to compensate for the loss of distributors and exhibitors in showcasing his movie Tubelight which failed to live up to the expectations last Eid-ul-Fitr. A film critic confirmed that Tubelight actor will refund INR 35 crore as compensation amount.
Komal Nahta said on Twitter, “Salman Khan to refund approx Rs 35 crore today to distributors & exhibitors as compensation for losses suffered in Tubelight.” He further noted that the Bajrangi Bhaijan star showed a very rare gesture by compensating 40% of the losses of Indian and overseas distributors.
Although Tubelight had a formidable opening on Eid, the movie could only gross almost INR 65 crores movie opened on a decent note considering the pre-Eid factor. It opened with INR 21.15 crore and gave some hopes to grow over the weekend. But the movie only managed to gross Rs 64.77 crore during the initial one week which is unusual for Salman Khan standards.
It had already been reported that the actor would compensate for the losses of exhibitors and distributors. Moreover, the distributors of Jab Harry Met Sejal are anticipating similar gesture from Shah Rukh Khan as his movie also failed to make big success. Film collections of JHMS have crashed, claimed the analyst.
Salman Khan is currently working on his upcoming project Tiger Zinda Hai in which he co-stars with Katrina Kaif. The movie will release in December, this year.
