PSL: Billings makes his mark as Islamabad United tame Quetta Gladiators

SHARJAH: Sam Billings’ trmendous inning of 78 runs helped Islamabad United to beat Quetta Gladiator by five wickets as they chase down 149-runs target in the last over. Quetta Gladiators scored 148 runs at the loss of six wickets as they batted first in the 7th match of Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2017 being played at Sharjah Cricket Stadium. Sam Billings was the top scorer, who hit 3 sixes and 8 fours. Shane Watson helped him and scored 36 runs off 27 balls. He hit 2 sixes and 4 fours. He was caught out off a ball by Perera in the 18th over.  From Gladiators’ side, Mohammad Nawaz took two wickets while Umar Gul, Perera and Hasan departed one batsman each.

Quetta Gladiators innings:
Opener Asad Shafique was top scorer with 45 runs on board, when he got out off Watson’s delivery in the 16th over. Zohaib Khan took the catch of Ahmad Shahzad off the first ball of the fifth over, bowled by Mohammad Sami. He scored 26 runs including 3 fours and 1 six. KP Pietersen came in at number three to join Asad Shafique on crease, and caught out on the very first ball. It was an LBW wicket of an inswinging yorker by Sami. Watson took the important wicket of Rossouw, who could score just seven runs.  Earlier, Islamabad United won the toss and elected to field first as Mohammad Irfan replaced Saeed Ajmal. Sam Billings was declared Man of the Match.
