Netflix gives ‘Sacred Games’ second season the green signal

LOS ANGELES: Netflix Inc will stick with the existing producers of its Sacred Games for a second season after conducting an independent investigation into allegations of sexual harassment, the company said on Tuesday.

In an email to Reuters, Netflix said it was standing by Vikramaditya Motwane and Anurag Kashyap, whose production house was behind the Mumbai-set thriller.

“We continue to collaborate with our production partners to ensure and maintain a safe and respectful working environment,” the company said in a statement.

It was earlier reported that the fate of the show’s second installment is undecided after its writer Varun Grover was accused of sexual harassment.

At that point, Netflix, in a statement had said, “At this time, we are evaluating options on the path forward.”

Meanwhile, Grover had denied all the charges and put out a detailed official statement clarifying and negating every single detail in the alleged accusation.

“I completely, totally, categorically deny all the allegations being made. The screenshot in question is untrue, misleading, and defamatory to say the least. Issuing a detailed statement soon,” he tweeted.

In the detailed account he wrote, “Here’s my detailed statement about the completely fabricated, misleading, and defamatory allegations against me. Am absolutely willing to cooperate and clear my name. Let’s not allow such agenda-driven tactics to derail this movement please.”

The writer, best known for writing the critically-acclaimed 2015 film Masaan, which starred Vicky Kaushal, co-wrote the Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Saif Ali Khan and Radhika Apte-starrer.

Sacred Games has not only received critical-acclaim in India but has also been lauded by the international audience.

Netflix has not yet announced a release date.
