Musical adaptation of ‘Monsoon Wedding’ in Leeds UK

MANCHESTER: The Broadway musical adaptation of Mira Nair’s “Monsoon Wedding’ will premiere at the Leeds Playhouse in the UK next summer. The musical comes nearly 20 years after the multi award-winning film broke all records by becoming one of the most successful international films of all time.

“Monsoon Wedding” tells the story of finding love against the odds and revolves around Aditi and Hemant and their arranged marriage.

The musical is co-directed by Nair and Stephen Whitson. The two collaborated with book writers Arpita Mukherjee and Sabrina Dhawan, music composer Vishal Bhardwaj and lyricists Masi Asare and Susan Birkenhead and orchestrator Jamshied Sharifi to bring the film to life on the stage.

The musical will open at Leeds Playhouse on June 17, 2020 and play there until July 11. Following that it will transfer to London’s Roundhouse to play a strictly limited season from July 17 to Aug. 29.
