Mickey must have more game-plans in mind: Miandad

Javed Miandad

Batting legend Javed Miandad has urged coach Mickey Arthur to devise different strategies for the Pakistan team on the changing situations on the field in order to get better results.

It may be mentioned here that Pakistan was whitewashed by New Zealand in the One-Day International series, however, the green shirts clinched the Twenty20 series by 2-1, claiming number one spot in Twenty20 rankings.

Miandad said the mentality of Pakistani players is different from foreigners and the coach needs to understand it. “Don’t force your stuff on players, rather train them the way they want and understand, so he will see better results would come,” he said.

The cricket legend said the coach must have four to five plans in mind according to the game’s changing situation. “At our times, we used to send signals on the field to players for devising different strategies according to the situation,” he said and added now a days, these things are lacking.

He said top five Pakistan batsmen must focus on taking singles and doubles instead of hitting poor shots and going back to the pavilion. “Not taking singles and doubles overburdens the middle order batsmen, resulting in losing the match,” he said.

Miandad said top five batsmen must also focus on playing maximum overs in a 50-over match. “If the other team can score 200 or 300 runs, then our players can also do this. But there is a dire need to be consistent and staying more at the crease as it will help gather more and more runs easily,” he said.

“Our players need to improve their fielding as well, as saving runs can lead to a low total of the other team on the scoreboard. The better a team’s fielding will be, the better the outcome will be,” he added.
