Marilyn Monroe home on sale for $6.9 million

Marilyn Monroe

HOLLYWOOD icon Marilyn Monroe’s house in Los Angeles where she died following an apparent drug overdose at the age of 36 is on sale for USD 6.9 million. After Marilyn Marilyn Monroe 1divorced her third husband Arthur Miller, she bought the palatial pad in Brentwood, California in 1962 for $90,000 (£59,000). She lived there for just six months before she was found dead in her bedroom from an overdose of barbiturates. The 2,624-square-foot home sits on an estate which boasts a swimming pool and citrus grove. With four bedrooms and four bathrooms, the residence has a living room with vibrant, tile-accented fireplace, a den/dining room with ceiling-height bookcases and an adjoining office/sunroom. Variety dubs it “extraordinarily modest by today’s celebrity standards,” though it has been “renovated, updated and expanded over the years by the various owners [yet] retains a number of original architectural details such as thick white stucco walls, casement windows, some fitted with wrought iron grills, terra-cotta tile floors, Gothic arch doorways, and vaulted, exposed wood ceilings.” Real estate agent Lisa Optican says, “There have been owners in the past who have made changes to the property but the overall feeling and aesthetic and vibe of what attracted Marilyn to it is still there and you can feel it. The same courtyard, entry, and backyard with the pool and the expansive grassy yard and garden are all there. You feel it and get why she was attracted to it — she wanted a home rather than just a big house in Beverly Hills.”
