Kohli should temper down his aggression a little bit: Kepler

KOHLI

CAPE TOWN: Former South African cricketer and a member of the current commentary panel for South Africa vs India Tests, Kepler Wessels, recently put his opinions forward about Virat Kohli. Wessels spoke in particular about Kohli being reprimanded by the ICC for his on-field behavior recently. The Indian captain was seen showing his discontent in inappropriate manner during the third day’s play of the ongoing Centurion Test.

The third day’s play was affected by rain for almost an hour in the final session of play. After the players walked back on the field, the Indian captain looked unhappy with the outfield conditions and went on to express the same to the umpire. The umpire, however, deemed the conditions to be appropriate for cricketing action. Unhappy with this, Kohli threw the ball hard on the ground to express his disgust.

The ICC found him to breach the Code of Conduct and hence, reprimanded him. Speaking about the entire episode, as per the quotes in ESPNcricinfo, Kepler Wessels opined that the Indian captain should keep his tempers in check. He explained that it is totally fair on Kohli’s part to express his discontent to the umpire. This is pretty much the norm that every captain is entitled to do.

However, one needs to be careful of the way they put their emotions across to the other side, explained Kepler Wessles. “Every captain is entitled to question decisions and show the emotions. But one just needs to be careful of how you do it and when you do it.

‘Went a bit too far’

Speaking further on the same note, the former South African cricketer noted that Kohli went a bit too far with his aggression. He added that he should temper down his aggression a little bit.

“Kohli went a little bit too far,” quipped the former cricketer. “This remains something to learn from. By and large, his passion and enthusiasm for the game is good and does good things for India. He just needs to assess it and temper down a little bit,” concluded Wessels.
