Sri Lanka’s poor record in India continued to the Twenty20 format as they were bowled out for just 87 runs chasing the target of 181 set by the hosts.
KL Rahul’s 61 – after a poor series so far, and some sensible batting from Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Manish Pandey powered India.
The massive victory – by 93 runs – was India’s biggest margin in this format, but they were helped by Sri Lanka. Yuzvendra Chahal – four wickets for just 23 runs in his quota of overs – spun a web around them and they gave him four wickets.
In partnership with Kuldeep Yadav, the two young spinners managed to control the game and the ball even though dew was a factor – the reason Sri Lanka skipper Thisara Perera decided to bowl first. But it didn’t help the visitors. Kuldeep got two wickets for his trouble.
Jaydev Unadkat and Hardik Pandya opened the bowling for India, with the former striking in his first over.
Unadkat got Niroshan Dickwella for 13 runs after the batsman failed to time a delivery outside off, his inside out shot being caught at cover.
