Grim footage of London club acid attack released

New footage has emerged of a shocking acid attack at a London nightclub that injured more than a dozen people, including two Australians.

The former boyfriend of a British reality television star has been found guilty of the attack.

The new footage was released by London police and shows the moment the attack took place.

One victim can be seen clutching their face after the acid is thrown.

Arthur Collins, the ex-boyfriend of The Only Way is Essex star Ferne McCann and the father of her child, was found guilty of five counts of grievous bodily harm and nine counts of actual bodily harm at a Wood Green court overnight.

Collins has admitted to throwing the bottle of fluid during a fight, but claimed he didn’t know it was acid. He claimed he thought it was a date rape drug he had stolen from men inside the club after he’d overheard them talking about plans to spike a woman’s drink.

Sixteen of the victims suffered serious burns as a result of the attack inside Mangle E8 club in east London in April.

One man told the court he still suffers from blurred vision in one of his eyes after he was splashed in the face by the acid.

Sydney model Isobella Fraser, 22 and her sister Prue, were both sprayed with the “noxious substance” and feared they had been caught up in a terror attack when their skin started to burn.

“I stood up and felt something wet on my back. I had had a few drinks, I wasn’t thinking properly, but I smelled gas and I couldn’t breathe,” Isobella told 9News.

“I thought they were like gassing people… I had to get out.”

A second man who was charged over the attack, Andre Phoenix, was found not guilty on all counts of grievous bodily harm and actual bodily harm.

Chief Superintendent Simon Lawrence of Scotland Yard said Collins entered the club with the acid intentionally.

“Collins went to the nightclub that night with a bottle of a noxious substance with the intent to use it to inflict serious harm,” he said.

“He indiscriminately and recklessly sprayed the substance in a crowded place, knowing full well the danger this would pose to a large number of people. This was a barbaric and cowardly act.”

Collins told the court he had been out celebrating McCann’s pregnancy, which she announced just days later. She gave birth to a girl on November 2. She said she plans to bring up her daughter as a single parent.

Collins is expected to be sentenced on December 19.
