Food safety probe extends to Scunthorpe chicken factory

BRADFORD: The Food Standards Agency (FSA) has extended its investigation into alleged safety failures by the 2 Sisters poultry group to the company’s Scunthorpe factory on the Foxhills Industrial Estate.

The move follows an initial inspection by the FSA into the hygiene and labelling concerns raised by an undercover investigation by ITN News and the Guardian newspaper last month at 2 Sisters’ West Bromwich plant.

An agency spokeswoman said: “This inspection has not identified food safety issues on these premises, but it highlighted issues requiring management attention, for example in relation to some aspects of staff training and stock control.

“We can confirm that the Scunthorpe site is one of the other sites that will be inspected.

“We are working with the major retailers supplied by 2 Sisters, as well as reviewing information from various other sources.

“We have also written formally to ITN and the Guardian to request the full evidence taken by their undercover investigation, such as the footage taken and witness interview transcripts to assist our investigation.”
