England to drop Jason Roy for West Indies series

Jason Roy

ENGLAND are ready to hand Jonny Bairstow an extended run in the one-day side with the Yorkshireman set to open against West Indies at Old Trafford.

Bairstow has emerged as one of England’s most important and influential players in the Test arena but has been unable to nail down a spot in the shorter formats.

But the wicketkeeper batsman opened in England’s last ODI during the Champions Trophy and will be given another opportunity to impress in tomorrow’s clash against West Indies.

The decision means Surrey batsman Jason Roy is likely to be left out – the 27-year-old has not passed fifty in nine ODIs and was dismissed for a duck in Saturday’s T20 defeat at Durham.
