BOLLYWOOD: Anupam Kher, Abhishek Bachchan, Swapan Dasgupta, Ram Madhav, Kiran Bedi, Pritish Nandy… these are some of the public figures who lost their Twitter accounts for a brief period to a Turkish Cyber Army period this week. While the group of hackers used the name Turkish Cyber army when they posted the messages from the hacked accounts, they left enough footprints to suggest that the hacker group involved was none other than Ayyildiz Tim.
The hacker group also targeted a number of other Twitter handles using the hacked accounts, by sending the users a hackable link via Twitter direct messaging.
India Today has spoken to two alleged members of this hacker group who gave out the details and thinking behind the recent hackings. So how did the hackers got into the accounts of celebrities, what was it that they did?
Identifying the targets
If you have a verified Twitter account and have tweeted negative comment about Pakistan or Turkey, chances are that your account is right up in the list of these hackers. Asked about how did they choose a target and why accounts of Indian public figures we’re chosen, one of the members affiliated with the group who identified himself as Nohcoy, told India Today “India is an enemy of Pakistan, Pakistan is a friend of Turkey, it’s obvious why we are attacking these targets”.
Asked if there are any Pakistani hackers or groups are also involved in this process the second member of this group who did not identified himself, answered in negative “we are capable of carrying out such attacks ourselves, we have hacked bigger and much secured targets in the past also”.
Explaining the hierarchy and leadership of this rogue cyber army, Nohcoy told India Today, “Ayyildiz Tim has a rank system, Ledun Abdal is our chief of staff and one of the best hackers in the world”.
