LONDON: Amir Khan has not fought since being knocked out by Canelo Alvarez in May 2016, having suffered a hand injury that has kept him out of action in the meantime.
The 31-year-old has not been short of media attention though thanks to a high-profile split and reconciliation with his wife Faryal Makhdoom, with whom he is now expecting their second child.
The 2004 Olympic silver medalist also appeared on I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! last month but insists he is now firmly focused on getting back into the boxing ring.
“I haven’t fought in the UK for seven years. It is time to come back home now so I am looking at fighting in March,”
“Then I plan to fight again in the UK around September time and then at the end of the year I want a big fight, wherever that is.
“There are some big, big announcements I will make within the next ten days before I go back to training camp in America. This is news everyone is going to be shocked hearing.”
Khan’s last fight came at a 155lb catchweight, but he has already confirmed that he will return to the 147lb welterweight limit, the division where he is unbeaten in his four fights.
And he believes the combination of a cathartic experience in the jungle and a rejuvenated hand will make him a far better boxer than he has ever been.
