LAHORE: Days after popular Lahore-based actor Soha Ali accused producer Arshad Chaudhry of raping her, thespian Afreen Khan has jumped to the latter’s defence. Afreen told journalists at Lahore Press Club that Arshad was a ‘good man’ and the allegations against him were unfounded. “Arshad Chaudhry is a good man. I share a great rapport with him. He has promoted scores of actors including me,” Afreen said. Many actors are doing well and don’t resort to such tactics. Only those devoid of talent tend to do such things. I am a professional. Not once did Arshad do anything wrong with me, she said. Recently, Soha approached police after accusing Arshad of raping her. In an application to the Lahore CCPO, she said the producer had threatened her of dire consequences if she raised the matter. Soha had also asked for security. Separately, sources from the city’s theatre circuit told The Express Tribune that individuals close to Soha and Arshad had been striving to bring about a rapprochement. They said the matter would be hushed up following the conclusion of a monetary deal between the two. “Soha will withdraw her application and resume working at Alfalah Theatre,” a source said. Both, Soha and Arshad remained unavailable for comments despite repeated attempts.
